Incantation - "Blasphemy"

(Necropolis Records)
-reviewed by Jharrod Mead

For some reason, I just couldn't sink my teeth into Incantations latest slab of Death Metal. "Blasphemy" is definitely a decent album, but it offers nothing new. The music is slow and dramatic, and it is kind of depressing. That's not necessarily a bad thing, because an album that can convey an emotion(s) to the listener is definitely something worthwhile. But the tunes on "Blasphemy" are so depressing that I can only take it a little at a time. I do also hear a strong Morbid Angel influence in this release, which is actually very welcome. It is good to see that the old school Death Metal sound lives on in a sea of slam-riffs and blastbeats. If your into Morbid Angel and you love Incantation's sound, then you will probably dig this, but other than that, it is kind of tired.
